The Stephan Hopkins Memorial Foundation, a non-profit organization, was established in 2007. With a Board of Directors and a Fundraising Committee put in place, the team worked tirelessly to get the message out to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador that with their help, they could help other families throughout the province by helping the foundation purchase this much needed technology. The support was overwhelming. Donations started pouring in through corporate sponsors, community groups, private donations, provincial fundraising events and government support. And within a few short months, the foundation reached its goal.
The Foundations home base is located in Deer Lake, Newfoundland which surrounds a vast area of water that is ideal for training exercises. The Foundation currently consists of a group of volunteers who have committed to helping families recover the body of their loved one through drowning. They continuously train and expand their knowledge through local search exercises, from the expertise of Gene & Sandy Ralston, and through the support of Marine Institute.
